Typically, in the lead-up to a Fed policy decision, Wall Street and economists are in alignment on what to expect. But investors’ wagers for a half-point cut ramped up on Monday; and as of Tuesday afternoon, federal funds futures contracts were pricing in a 63% chance of a jumbo rate cut, up from around 30% on Thursday, according to the CME Group. As inflation skyrocketed in 2021 and 2022, American employers pumped out jobs and the unemployment rate declined to half-century lows. The Fed eventually responded to the country’s inflation problem with its bitter medicine of high interest rates.

If Robert Kaplan still had a say in the matter, he'd be pushing for a half percentage point interest rate reduction at this week's Federal Reserve meeting. The former Dallas Fed president told CNBC on Tuesday that making the bolder move of 50 basis points would better position policymakers heading into the latter part of the year and the economic challenges ahead. "If I were sitting at the table, I would be advocating for 50 in this meeting," Kaplan said during a "Squawk Box" interview. One basis point equals 0.01%. Kaplan ran the Dallas Fed from 2015-21 and is now a managing director at Goldman Sachs.

I first reported on Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad Poor Dad" back in 2015. — part assignment (I recently started reviewing popular money books) and part convenience: "Rich Dad Poor Dad" was gifted to me a few years back and happened to already occupy my bookshelf. His poor dad earned a substantial income but always struggled financially; his rich dad became one of the wealthiest individuals in Hawaii primarily by running businesses. While rich dad wasn't educated in the traditional sense, he understood money — and agreed to pass on that understanding to Mike and Kiyosaki. The former, according to rich dad, will "shut down your brain" and create a "lazy mind," while the latter forces you to be solutions-oriented and get creative.

Robert Kirk, a retired jack of many trades, finds himself homeless at the age of 74 after a chain of events that could happen to almost anyone. His landlady in Brooklyn died, the building’s new owner raised the rent and later evicted the tenants, and he could not find another apartment he could afford with his Social Security check. Now his neighbors at a hotel shelter in Brownsville, Brooklyn, include a 69-year-old ambulette driver who lost his job and apartment after a leg injury, a 73-year-old former plasterer from Panama and a 78-year-old retired sushi chef from Japan. They are among the swelling ranks of older people who are homeless in New York City. According to a report released on Thursday, the number of single adults ages 65 and older in the city’s main shelter system more than doubled from 2014 to 2022, growing nearly three times as quickly as the number of younger single adults in shelters.

New York CNN —A class action case challenging the legality of the NFL’s Sunday Ticket package, whose opening arguments are scheduled for Thursday, could shake up television rights deals in professional sports and the way teams make money. The case, first brought in 2015, focuses on the NFL’s package of games outside of a local market that are not shown nationally on other networks. The suit says by restricting broadcasts of those “out-of-market” games to the Sunday Ticket package, the NFL is forcing customers who just want to watch one team or a small group of teams have to pay more. The NFL argues that the current arrangement offers the broadest possible selection of games for fans at a good value. The NFL has been known to settle some high profile cases against it rather than having its practices disclosed and dissected in open court.

Ashkenazi has had a 23-year career at Eli Lilly, which in a separate release confirmed her departure. Ashkenazi joined Eli Lilly in 2001 and had been CFO since 2021. She previously served as a CFO for several of the company's global business areas, helping to manage the revenue windfall from Eli Lilly's weight loss and diabetes drugs.
